RECREATION GROUND.
LYTTELTON RESIDENTS’ REQUEST. The application of the Lyttelton Borough Council for an area of about seven acres of the reclaimed ground near the dockyard to Ik 4 used a.s a recreation ground was before the Lyttelton Harbour Board at the meeting to-day. The hoard's engineer, Mr Cyrus J. R. Williams, said that there was not sufficient ground at Sandy Bay for the purpose. He favoured the granting of the area on a perpetual lease to cease as soon as it was used other than as a recreation ground. A member: fit* until such time a.s the board wanted it for some purpose. Mr Williams: If you made that provision they would not he a tile to spend any money on itMr IT. T. Armstrong said that it was time that Lyttelton hail a recreation reserve. But it was not reasonable to expert that the people would go to any great expense on the ground if they had no security over it. Mr Armstrong’s resolution that the hoard grant fven * acres of tile reclaimed ground to the Lyttelton Borough Council was carried.
