UNION - CLUB. On Monday. September 11. the Union? Rowing Club will hold its annual meeting to receive the fifty-sixth annual report and balance-sheet and elect officers for the ensuing season. The report is brief, being a short reference to the doings of th© season. At regattas the club’s representatives had a. fair measure of success, scoring wins at Akaroa. Sumner. Christchurch. Kaiapoi and Wanganui, where the championships were decided. In connection with thrs event the report has the following refer ence to an incident which provoked a deal of discussion at the time-—“ln the Champion Pairs, our crew finished first, but owing to other crews fouling,, the umpire ordered a re-row. As the club’s crew had protested against the umpires decision.; they did not take part in the second race, and Wanganui Union, being the only starters, were awarded the prize. The matter was referred to the New- Zealand Rowing Association, but this fart is not mentioned in the report. Th© membership of the club is 2G-i. consisting of 311 seniors. 96 juniors, 35 ladies and 32 life members. Gratification is expressed at the club being absolutely free from debt, and the season closed with an actual cash credit of nearly £IOO. The balanco-sdiee: is a very interesting document. The assets consist of cash and property, the latter including the boathouse, valued at £3sov. plant and furniture £2525. and property at New Brighton £350. a total of £6473 6s Sd The club is claimed to be the most solid institution of the kind in the Dominion, and its present happy position is due to years of hard work and unselfish labour by a regular succession of earnest - and enthusiastic menil>ers. among whom the present captain, Mr F. D. Keeteven, has ever held a foremost position. CANTERBURY CLUB. The sixty-second annual report for the year ending July 31 of the Canterbury Rowing Club states that during the year 34 new members were elected, making a total membership of 251. in order to perpetuate the memory of the thirty-four members who marl? the “ Great Sacrifice in the war, the executive of the club decided early in the season to erect a building in ferro-concrete to house its racing plant, which would be a most fitting and lasting memorial. With this object in view a sub-committee was formed and the building is now- complete and will be officially opened during the coming season. The club was represented at the following regattas.—Akaroa. Kaiapoi. Sumner. Christchurch. Wellington ?_nd Wanganui Championships, the successes obtained being:—Maiden Four (Akaroa. Christchurch.
