A DISFIGUREMENT.
ro THE E TUTOR. Sir,' —On whose authority was the ugly signboard that is at present disfiguring the tramway shelter in Cathedral Square erected? Tt is bad enough that we must submit to having hoardings erected on private property without adding insult to injury by adding another eyesore on top of our crudelooking tram shelter. I believe that the public of Christchurch should be patriotic and buy New Zealand-made goods, but I do not believe any good is going to be done by offending the aesthetic sense of the people. By all means let us have an exhibition and let us all go and see what New Zealand is producing, but don’t spoil our anticipation by such forms of “ cheap ” advertising. I am firmly of the opinion that all hoardings should be barred from Cathedral Square, which should be made a sanctuary, free from the ravages of the despoilers.—l am. etc., CITIZEN.
