COLLINS DEFEATS JJUNEFIELD. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY. September 2. At. the Stadium, Harry Collin? easily defeated Hunefield (America) on points in twenty rounds. The American was badly punished. Although lie was always danget'ous, he never looked like a winner. JN MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, September 2Alf Stewart defeated Billy M’Coy in fifteen rounds. The latter was disqualified for palming. Dave Ross beat Jimmy Regan on a foul. LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT CH A MPTONSHIP. Tlie contest- between C. Whittaker and B. M’Cleary which had to l>e postponed on account of the slight mishap to the local boxer, will take place at the King Edward Barracks at eight o'clock on Saturday next and should produce the best and most exciting bout that has been arranged this season. Reports received concerning the two contestants are that it will be a case of the survival of the fittest, as the bout will be fast and high strung from the opening gong. The local supporters of M’Cleary are confident, should the contest go the full distance of fifteen rounds, that, the speed of the Canterbury representative will carry him -to success. The local boxer has won his previous contests by scoring rapidly and by his cleverness in avoiding the rushing tactics of his heavier opponents. By defeating Poofey at New Plymouth, Whittaker advanced his prospects of securing the verdict against the other contestants in the heavy-weight, class. His association with W. Crawford has improved him a great deal and as he is now boxing faster and hitting harder than at any previous period, his party are confident that he will secure the winner's end of the purse. Whittaker was reinforced on Saturday morning by the arrival of his sparring partner from New Plymouth, and this should be of service in his training this week. Patrons can rely on a good programme of introductory bouts and the demand for accommodation is an indication of the interest that is centred on the contest. Reserved seats can he booked at Priestnall’s. tobacconist, Colombo Street, and day sales at Messrs Barlow Bros., H. Upjohn, J. Jerman and Priestnall’s, tobacconists.
