BOWLING.

ASHB UETON SUB-CENTRE. The annual meeting of the Ashburton Bowling Sub-Centre was held on Saturday night. Mr S. Smith presided. The annual report showed that the association was in a. flourishing condition. There was a credit balance of £7 7s 6d, chiefly owing to the profit made, from the Easter tournament. The assets were the handsome Bullock Pennants, while the liabilities were nil. The Pennant games between the affiliated clubs—Ashburton, Rakaia and Methven—were keenly contested, the Ashburton champion rink being the winuers. Two new competitions were inaugurated, one being a sub-oentre siugles championship, which was won by W. Moodie, of the Ashburton Club. Rakaia was represented by S. Holmes, and Methven by Waddinsrton. The centre had resolved to find an Ashburton centre champion rink, and this competition was won by Rakaia. The rink wa.R comprised of Weaver, Wright, Featherstono and Holmes (skip). This rink holds the Ashburton Gala Gup for twelve mouths. The doubles tournament held at Easter was n great success, with an entry of six pairs from the Rakaia and Methven Clubs, and twelve pairs from the Ashburton Club. Ha.rdie (lead) and Sutton (skip), Methven, were the winners, beating Higgins and Gimson, of the Ashburton Club, the runners-up. The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr T. Blackley (Rakaia); vice-presi-dent. Hr A. Lane (Ashburton); secretary and treasurer, Mr John Watson (Ashburton); auditor, Mr S. Madden (Ashburton). ASHBURTON CLUB. A ppecial meeting of the Ashburton Bowling- Club was held on Saturday night Mr A. Lane presiding. The chief business was that relating to a recommendation from the annual meeting that the subscription for the year be increased from £2 5b to £3 3s. A motion to this effect discussed at length, tho speakers pointing out that the club was working on a very narrow margin. The meeting eventually decided against the increase. A motion that the committee impose a. levy of 10b per member, as provided for in the rules, was carried.

The meeting also decided to issue £1 debentures up to £3OO, free of interest, in order to wipe out the club’s overdraft. The president made an appeal for straightout donations to put the club on its feet. A sum of £7O was subscribed in the room. Subsequently the club held its annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes. Recipients of the latter wore as follow: Colt Handicap Singles—S. J. Irwin 1, J Moore 2Champion Singles—W. Moodie 1 (holder Robert Bell Cup, also champion howler of the sub-centre), P. Stewart 2. Champion Rink —A. T. Robertson, F. B. Robilliard, R. G. Shearman and J. Stevenson (skip). Champion Doubles—S. Madden and J. C. M’LauchJan 1, J. Templeton and D. Morgan" Pennant Match, for Bullock Pennant— C Section (Ashburton). Sub-Centre Champion Rink—Rakaia Club.
