WIVES WHO HINDER.

(By A HUSBAND.)

I sometimes wonder bow many wives realise that they can either make or mar their husband’s future. Let me give you a case in point. There i>. Muriel, one of the most capable little women I know ; a perfect treasure, in fact. She conducts Fred's modest, establishment with a sort of instinctive thoroughness. He will toll you proudly that there is no finer housekeeper than Muriel in the land. She has the rare virtue of making hi.s modest salary go farther than he ever hoped to dream. That they love each other no one who knows then doubts. And yet Muriel is hindering her husband in bis career. If she maintains her present attitude. Fred will continue to draw his present modest salary until be Hide* into the more or less comfortable groove of venerable old age, grows a beard, and Josea interest in everything except his pec ailments. She gets cross and sulky and begin* to talk a lot of silly nonsense about his “ neglecting ” her. She can't for the life of her see why Fred shouldn't do all his business at the office, where to her mind all business should he done. She is unconsciously selfish enough to want him always at home after office hours. The result is that Fred misses a chance of improving his (and her) position that may only come once in a lifetime. Tlio lesson t.ltai Muriel and spores cf wives like her must ieam is thax it her duty not to stand in her husband's way on such occasions. AVhen she has taken that to heart. I think her delightful womanliness will do the rest,
