TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr Wyvern "Wilson. S.M-) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined ss. in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. ALLEGED THEFT OF LIQUOR. Arthur Cecil Peter? (Mr R. Twyneham) charged with being helplessly drunk, was ordered to pay 12s 6d medical expenses in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Peters was further charged that on August 12 he broke into the warehouse of J. T. Bourne. Moorhouse Avenue, and stole two cases of gin and one case of schnapps, of a total value of £lB. The accused was remanded to appear ou August 25. THEFT OF A COAT. Frederick Patrick Sterling pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing, at Bankside, a trench coat valued at £3. the property of Charles M. Skivington.

Chief-Detective Cameron said that the accused had been working at Bankside on the farm of the complainant’s father, and that when he left he took the coat with him. Later he promised to return tho coat to the owner. The accused was remanded to appear to-morrow in order that a probation officer’s report might be received. NOT WANTED. Horace Robert Loose was charged with wilfully damaging a lock valued at 2s 6d. the property of William Fraser. Avon side. William Fraser said that he was the proprietor of a dancing school. He gave orders that several men should not be admitted to the hall. The defendant, who was among them. left, but returned later and used abusive language and made an effort, to enter. Subsequently he apologised for his conduct. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay witnesses 5 expenses. NO TAX RETURNS. Leonard Ranks, Hugh Miller, George Thdnias Robdiißon and L. Robinson, for failing to supply Land Tax Returns were each fined 40s and costs. BY-LAW CASES. Harold R. J. Bailey, for leaving a motor-car without lights was fined 10s and costs, and Leonard Scott was fined osFor cycling without lights, William Joseph Gill, and Stanley Williams were each fined 20s and costs, I. Fleming, F. O. Smart, and F. L. Squire were each fined 10s and costs. For cycling on the footpath, James Bird and George Burrows were each fined 5s and costs, F. R. Smith was fined 10s, and ('. Dook was ordered to pay 7s eoßts. Muriel Wallace was ordered to pay costs on charges of cycling on the footpath, and riding without a light. Jane Carmichael for allowing a chimney to catch fir© was fined ss. For leaving a motor-car unattended Greta Clarkson was fined ss. For leaving a vehicle without lights William Wilkins was fined 10s and costs. Seddon Kirk, was fined 10s for riding a motor-cycle .without a certificate of ability. For riding an unregistered motor-cycle he was ordered to pay costs. Richard Olliver was ordered to pay costs 7s for riding a motor-cycle without lights. George Shipley was fined 10s for leaving a motor-car without lights. The New Brighton Borough Council (Mr .J. A. Flesh or), proceeded againwfc Raymond Arthur Blank (Mr C. S. Thomas), for having made structural alterations to a dwellihg in New Brighton without first getting a permit. Defendant was convicted and each party was ordered to pay its own costs. SEQUEL TO A COLLISION. Francis Saddler was charged with being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, anrl further with having no lights on the vehicle. A Tramway motormnn said that while driving n tram on the Riccarton Pond on a very foggy night, he collided with the defendant, who was driving on the tram track. The charge of drunkenness was dismissed, and on the second charge accused. wa.s convicted and ordered to pay costs.
