KAIAPOI HARBOUR.
MEETING OF BOARD TO-MORROW, The Kaiapoi Harbour Board will holej an important meeting to-morrow to consider the financing of its loan pro posals. It is rumoured that the board has received word that it can obtain tho money, and the question for decision to-morrow will be whether the money shall be raised. On this point there is a sharp division of opinion on the board, as some of the outlying counties are opposed to loan expenditure ; but those, in favour of going on with the w'ork are in a majority of one. One of the principal works will be the building of a training wall to throw the river out to sea by the old mouth just south of Kairaki. This is expected to put an end to any fears regard - ing the moving of the mouth further south than it is at present. There have been hopes for some time past that a heavy flood, with a high tide, -would scour a new bar at the old point at Kairaki, but yesterday’s flood was by no means serious, and the river at high tide was not very much, above normal.
