TARANAKI DAIRY WORKERS. WANGANUI, July 28. An application was made by the I Taranaki Dairy Workers* Union to 1 the Arbitration Court to-day for an award. This is the first application made by the union. The wages asked were £5 weekly- Mr Lyons, for the union, said the Southland and Otago awards would be acceptable as a basis for the award. He rejected the employers’ counter-claims entirely. Mr Bishop, for the employers, pointed out that if the Southland and Otago awards were accepted the union would be accepting less than the men were now receiving. Mr Justice Fraser, after hearing argument, said the Court would not entertain the application for an award in view of the absence of information regarding Taranaki conditions. I I <9 N TARIFF AGREEMENT. WELLINGTON, July -28. g The tariff agreement, which was tabled this - afternoon, contains the list of goods which may enter either .1 country at reduced rates. New Zea- £ land bacon, hams, butter and cheese f are reduced to 2d. and meats to an ? average of *d per pound. Dairying •' machines are free. Amoivz the imports Australian wines are reduced to 4s a gallon-, timber, rough sawn, is free; wine, Australian sparkling, is reduced to 10s a gallon. All goods not mentioned in the agreement are to fall under the British preferential tariff. £ I
