OBITUARY.

MR J. M. TAYLOR. The death occurred yesterday of Mr John Morgan Taylor, the founder of the well-known firm of Tavlors Ltd. plumbers’ merchants. Tho late Mr lay lor was horn in Loom mister, Hampshire, England, seventy-six years ago. Ho was apprenticed tio the plumbing trade in his native city, and after corn siderable experience in the trade in England lie came out to New Zealand in 1874. The following year, in conjunction with Mr Henry Oakley, he started the plumbing firm of Taylor and Oakley. This partnership was dissolved a few years ago, and tho firm became known as Taylors Ltd. In 1901 Mr Taylor was elected to represent the South-east ward on the City Council, being returned at the top «of the poll. One of the planks in Mr Ta ylar’s rnuni- • ■ipnl platform consisted of the amalgamation of the city with the suburbs for the purpose of municipalising all public services. He took a keen interest in labour legislation and represented the plumbing trade before the Arbitration Court on several occasions- He was Hie chief promoter of the Master Plumbers’ Association in New Zealand, and was first president of that body. Ho wa.s also an active member of the Canterbury Employers’ Association. The late Mr Taylor was a keen bowler, being a member of both the Canterbury and Lin wood Clubs and an e x -president iof the former. Mr Taylor was appointed a. Justice of the Peace in 1912. TTis wife pro-deceased him sixteen years ag°His seven surviving children are all I residents of Christchurch. Thev are ! Mesdames T. Armstrong, G. W. Bettle. j Cartwright and Miss K. Taylor and j Messrs. E. W. Tavlor. E. C. Taylor ! and H. M. Taylor, the well-known exNew Zealand Rngbv Representative. Another son. Mr E. J Taylor, died on active service during the late war.
