A PUBLIC SERVICE.
1 TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—As a newcomer to Canterbury T . was particularly interested in the an- ! nouncement in yesterday’s “ Star,” no- I tifying that the Progress League had stepped in with emergency motor mail services to fill a gap caused by the cutting out of some trains in certain districts. The people of Canterbury are fortunate in
having such a body to look after their needs, and co-operating -with other services (in this instance the newspapers), to tide over a difficulty. There is another aspect, however. To a mere layman. it seems there is something wrong in the State management when private enterprise has to step in, but this is by the way. My main object in penning these few lines is to record appreciation of the fact that through other channels the mail services will still be continued.— I am, etc., POSTAGE.
