FUND FOR THE BLIND.

COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Christchurch Committee of the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund for the Civilian Blind was held yesterday afternoon. In the absence oi: the Mayor (Dr Thacker M.P.), Mr It. D. Martin was voted to the chair. The chairman said that Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., had informed him that be would do his best in Parliament io bring about the validation of the grants made by local bodies towards the fund. Mr G. Donaldson, the secretary, who was unable to attend the meeting, iiad told him that the fund had practically £SOOO in sight, provided. of course, that the Government validated the local bodies' grants. Everything was going well, and there was still a considerable amount to come in from tho recent football match, also collect ions from churches and schools and proceeds of dances. The Tramway Band had offered to give a Sunday afternoon concert in the Gardens at a date to be arranged by the committee, and the R.S.A. was going to bold a dance, cm Wednesday, July 19, in aid of the fund. The Kaiapoi committee had forwarded £sl. being the result of its effort. A “ community sing ” was being held at Ohoka on Wednesday evening for the benefit of tho fund. He had suggested to Mr Donaldson that, in view of the success of the match between the Boys’ High School and Christ’s College, they hold another match in aid of the fund, but Mr Donaldson had informed him that it had been decided to hold another match on the College grounds. Mr Donaldson had suggested that someone should bo appointed to wait on the head masters to ask for permission to take up a collection for the fund. It was decided that Mrs Bean and Mr H. Holland should wait on the head masters of Christ's College and the Boys' High School, with a request that the football match should be played at Lancaster Park, and if this could not be arranged, for permission to take up a collection at the mated in aid of the fund.
