HAGLEY PARK.

NO MORE TO BE ALIENATED The Domains Board yesterday considered a letter by Mr W. S. Wharton, secretary of the North Otnterbury Hospital Board, asking the Domains Board to meet the Hospital Committee in order to become acquainted with the needs of the hospital and the necessity for the Hospital Board obtaining part of the ground now used by the Accli* mat isation Society. Mr IT. J. Beswick said that the Domains Board should let it be known definitely that no part of the people's park would he filched from them. No encouragement should be given to any public body to take any more of the park. The hospital was not in the best position. Tt should have been taken further out. Tt had a larger area, than any hospital in London had. Tf it had to extend its buildings it> could go up in the air. He moved—- ' That the Hospital Board should be informed that the Domains Board respectfully has to decline the applies tion, as it has "determined from its start that no part of the park shall be alienated.” Mr W. H. Winsor seconded the motion. Mr H. T. Armstrong said that the question should not be settled too hurriedly. He moved as an amendment that consideration of the application be deferred until the board had visited tho hospital- He said that that course was merely a matter of courtesy. The amendment was not seconded. The chairman (Mr G. Harper) said that the Hospital Board wished to have about two acres past the fever ward. “We often have discussed the hospital question, and we have decided not to let any more land go from the park,” Air Winsor said. ‘‘lf the Hospital Board needs more land, it can go further afield. We should stajid fast to our decision.” The motion was carried.
