WEATHER SPOILS HOLIDAY.
VERY WET CONDITIONS. Boisterous weather conditions entirely spoilt the holidi\3 r that is being observed to-day, on the occasion of the fifty-seventh birthday of his Majesty King George V. The King’s Birthday is one of the most popular holidays of tho year, as it is the first holiday that comes after Easter, and for factory workers no other holiday comes until .Labour Day in October. As a general rule the weather can Ih> depended upon to bo fine on June 3. consequently tlio holiday is a favourite with picnio parties. The trotting meeting at Canterbury Park Is another fixture that always comes in for a large measure of supoort on the King's Birthday. To-day, however, the conditions were about as gloomy and dismal as they can be. All fixtures that could be postponed are declared “off." hut the. trots are being held in the rain, and have attracted the attendance of n fair number of enthusinsts. The city bore a very quiet, appearance, and it is not unlikely that many people who hod to spend the day in idleness, would willmglj’ have worked if that had been possible.
