TEST FOR MOTORS.
TO AKAfiOA AND BACK. THE RELIABILITY TRIAL. Leaving Latimer Square at half-past seven this morning with a dull sky overhead, thirty-eight motor-cars set out on the route to Akaroa and back, a total distance of about 120 miles. The trial was originally fixed for last Saturday, but it had to be postponed, and, owing to recent rains, it was decided to follow the alternative route. Going outward, the cars went to Akaroa by way of Sumner and Gebbies Valley the maximum time allowed being 3.1 hours and the. minimum 31. The homeward route is via Long Bay, Okain’s Bay, Stoney Bay, Little Akaloa.. Pigeon Bay. clown the saddle to DuvaueheUe Bay—Barry’s Bay saddle, from Barry’s Bay to the Hilltop, and then home, the maximum time allowed being 5$ hours and the minimum 6} hours. The trial was promoted by the Canterbury Automobile Association, and prizes will be awarded on the basis of 1000 marks as a maximum of reliability, subject to deductions of various kinds, with a petrol consumption test as well.
