LAWSON ACQUITTED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, May 30. Charles Lawson, charged with obtaining £25,000 by fraud, has been acquitted. Charles Lawson, a farmer, aged fc rty-five, was arrested at Southampton and charged with obtaining £25,000 fjom David K. Hall by means of tiickery. Hall met Macanally, an other member or the gang, who claimed to be a West Australian squatter, dur ing a voyage from Australia in May, 19i9. Hall was induced to go to Alfred Dean’s fiat where* without any idea that anything was wrong, he lost £8704 to Lawson and Dean in twenty minutes. Later he lost money in a betting deal. Hall gave evidence that he dealt, in cattle and horses in Australia, and New Zealand. He. said he came to England to buy cattle fo' the New Zealand Government- Mac anally, Dean and Dudley had already been sentenced to five years** imprisonment.
