Pondoland apnea red at the customary exercise time to-day with a bandaged leg, and walked a distance instead of galloping. It is reported that he is suffering from a boil behind the leg. Nevertheless, one report declared that he walked scoundly. TRAINING NOTES. CANTERBURY PARK. The course proper was open at Canterbury Park for horses engaged at the club’s meeting next week. The grass track was in excellent order and a large number of horses were worked, but none of thorn at top speed over a long distance Those horses not engaged next week were worked on the training track. There were a good number of spectators, including several owners, who watched the morning's work with interest. Tracey Boy. in harness, went nearly a mile at top speed and covered the distance in fast time. Peter King, who looks very well, paced a little over a mile in good style. Grand Denver, ridden by R. Humphreys, and Lear Dillon, with A. Hendricksen in the sulky, went two miles at a good working out speed. Both horses are very well and paced resolutely. St Hubert went a little over a mile in saddle, but not at top speed. Sherwood. Trix Pointer and Emperor were associated together over a two-mile work-out. The speed was not fast till the last half-mile, when the three were hard at it. They all stuck to their tasks well. Huia Bird, with R. W. Franks in the sulky, was given useful work over a little further than a mile. Thixendale, in saddle, and Lord Lytton. in harness, were not unduly hurried over about a mile and a quarter. Prince Burlington, ridden by J. Campbell. paced a mile and a quarter at a solid speed. .. Coil and Star Queen went a mile, the last half of which they were joined in with Gladeye. in saddle. The trio worked well. f , The trotter Randolph was given useful w'ork over a fair distance. In saddle. St Mihiel and Avenue, both in harness, accomplished a good mile. Rita's Greeting, driven by her owner, worked out a mile and a half in good style. ~ ~ St Quentin, in saddle, went really well over two miles, despite a bad break just at the end. It only requires this trot, ter to reproduce his track work in a race t0 Lady Joan was not worked fast, but covered several circuits at a fair speed. Mr Morlaud’s mare looked ready to go a good deal faster. . Adelaide Thorpe was not too certain with her gait when sho commenced, but once she settled down she paced well over about a. mile and a half. Imperial Fan. in saddle, set out with Ladv Wildwood, in harness, for a mile journey, but tho latter broke badly and the saddle mare went on alone. Lady Wildwood subsequently went a mile in better style. . . , Audalte trotted just as fast as required over about a couple of miles. This trotter looks very well. > . Harold Burwood was given a mile at three-quarter speed. Renown and Tommy Direct, both in saddle, put up a few sprints and then the former covered a mile and a half in good style by herself. Ga.y Wilkes and Merry Bingen, both in harness, after some medium speed work, set out. for a. mile and a half and were joined by Peter Jackson, in harness, and Rose Peters, ’'n saddle. Tt was quite an interesting -work, and between the four trotters, all of whom did their work quite sat i sf actor ily. Soprano, in saddle, was given a few sprints, in wh'ch the West Coaster wa.s seen to advantage. Koraki. in saddle, was accompanied by George Grafton, in harness. and they worked out a useful mile at nearly top speed.
