HOCKEY.
FIFTH ROUND. The fifth rounr] of the Hockey Associations competitions was played to-day. CHRISTCHURCH V. TEHNICAL. Technical attacked strongly from the opening bully, but Martin intercepted and relieved. He set the Christchurch forwards moving and a solid attack, ended in H. Keys opening the score—Christchuron 1 - Technical 9. Technical forwards rallied strongly, and kept Christchurch ou the defence until half-time was called, with the score: Christchurch 1; Technical 0. On resuming Technical rushed the ball into the Christchurch circle, but Cameron cleared and play was quickly transferred to t.be other end. Lockes saved and passed to Barwick. who centred smartly. but Martin intercepted Sepie stopped a Technical rush and gave Keys a chance in tlie circle, but the slippery ground beat him jßncl Technical again reached tbe Christchurch circle. Mann started the Christchurch forwards moving. Morns saved ami passed to Turner, who transferee! to Gracie. The latter shot across the goal but Edginton and Steero both missed. A pretty passing rush between. Keys and Joe was spoilt by “ kicks.” and Technical got relief from tbe hit. Christchurch attacked strongly, but Morris and Pearce defended well and kept the goal clear. Technical went down the right wing and play ended in the Christchurch circle with the score:— CHRISTCHURCH .... ONE TECHNICAL NAlj Referee, Mr L. H.-Norton. SELWYN V. Y.M.C.A. The ground at. Haglev Park was slippery. Selwyn were one short. Both teams went, close to scoring in the opening moments of the game. and Holland eventually opened the score for Y.M.O.A. Y.M.C.A. 1. Selwyn 0. Selwyn cleared from a corner. and M’Donald hit out. Y.M.C.A. went down the field and Hill pushed the ball past him, making the score Y.M.C.A. 2. Selwyn 0. Selwyn attacked, and from a struggle in the goal mouth Dickson cleared to Faulkner, who made a good solo run, Grose intercepting the centre and clearing Unwin received the ball, but Drayton cleared. Graham and Farrell put in some good work on the left, but half-timq went with the score:
Y.M.C.A. 2; Selwyn 0. Faulkner scored immediately after the resumption for Y.M.C.A. Y.M.C.A. 3, Selwyn 0. Selwyn attacked, and after a couple of corners, W. Bell beat Drayton with a stinging: shot. Y.M.C.A. 3, Selwyn 1. Y.M.C.A. pressed from the bully, only to find the Selwyn defence safe. Up and down play followed. Selwyn got away and Squires had a shot which Drayton saveth Open play followed till time went, with the scores: Y.M.C.A THREE SELWYN ONE Mr 11. Throp was referee. SYDENHAM V. CRANFORD, Sydeqb.am immediately set up an attack and A. Mather opened their account. Sydenham 1, Cranford 0. The Sydenham forwards again took play to their opponents’ circle, and a centre by Taylor resulted in Sheriffs scoring. Sydenham kept up the pressure and Warburton sent a pass to Sheriffs, who notched another goal. Sydenham 3, Cranford 0. Sheriffs was prominent with a solo effort, which ended in liis scoring his third poal. Syden ham 4. Cranford 0. Sydenham were monopolising the play, and a combined movement by their vanguard let A. Mather increase the 6core. Taylor scored Sydenham's pixth goal with a. fine oblique shor. Sydenham were pressing, when RherifFs put in a shot which was well stopped by Lux ton. Warburton came away a-gain a.nd, tricking Kander, pushed the ball into the net. Sydenham 7, Cranford 0. Shortly afterwards Taylor scored. Cranford took a hand in the attacking, a.nd S. French beat Snooks with a fast, ground shot. Sydenham 8, Cranford 1. On resuming Cranford held the upper hand, and Snooks saved a hot one from French. Gay set the Sydenham forwards going, hut Mather's shot went wide. Taylor had a good but unsuccessful shot for Sydenham. Quartermain and Hockeridge invaded Sydenham territory, but Snooks saved Quartermain's shot. The filial whistle went with the scores:— SYDENHAM . . . EIGHT. CRANFORD ... . ONE Referee: Mr C. Whyte.
JUNIOR GAMES. SECOND GRADE. Selwyn 8 (O'Connell) defeated Y.M.C.A. 1 (Arniitage). Referee, Mr E. G. Jones. Sydenham 1 (Pragnell) defeated Technical 0. Referee, Mr C. Bishop. THIRD GRADE. Christchurch II (Bearne 5, Johnson 3. Spelling 2, Gasson 1) defeated Y.M.C.A. 2 (Winspear and Gowarth). Technical 4 CSkellerup 2. Milner and Mathews) defeated Selwyn 2 fHoare and Bryden). Referee, Mr R. Woods. FOURTH GRADE. Technical 22 defeated West Christchurch 0. LADIES’ GAMES. SENIOR GRADE. Wharenui 7 V. Rossiter (4), I. Johnston (2), V. Welsh 1), defeated Wairewa 0. Referee, Mr R. A. Coopm. Okiri2 (M. Tini a.nd Tatuhu) drew with Rangiora 2 (Misses Winskill and Mehrteus). Referee, Mr D. Hasell. Waimairi 3, (H. Ritchie (2). and N. Rogers) defeated Sydenham 0. Referee, Mr O. Bellamy. Technical 3. (R. Milne (2), and Jorgensen), defeated Digby 0. Referee, Mr Callan. Technical College 3 goals (Miss Milne (2;, Miss Georgeaon 1) beat Digby’s nil. JUNIOR GRADE. Rangiora defeated Technical by 8 goals to nil. The Boorers were: —Miss J. Parsons (5), and Miss M. Seal (3). Mr VV. J. Turnpenny was referee. Hinemoa B, 7, defeated Ngaio, 0.
