MOTOR TRIAL OFF.
POSTPONED ON ACCOUNT OF OF RAIN.
Rain at Charter is Bay and Purau led to a last-minute postponement of the Automobile Association’s reliability trial to Akaroa and back. Alembers of the committee held a special meeting last evening, and, after considering the weather reports, they decided to go ahead, the general verdict being that oil would be well provided th© drivers exercised particular <3ire at the hairpin bends where the road is urime tailed. Over twenty cars were lined up on tlie north side of Latimer Square thos morning when an adverse report came to hand. There had been a downpour overnight at a dangerous portion of tbe route and, with light rain in the city, prospects generally, were unfavourable. Th© committee, therefore, decided to bold the trial at a later date, probably next Saturday. Everybody M r a.s so keen on the outing that disappointment followed as a matter of course, but the competitors at the starting point soon mad© the best of it and promised each other better luck next time.
Afr C- W. Hervey (secretary of the association) said later that tlie rain had made the read in the vicinity of Purau and Chart©ris Buy very dangerous and the trial had been postponed lor t least a week. In the meantime the committee would consider the advisability of fixing an alternative route. In deciding on postponement tho committee had considered th© damage that would be done to county roads through the motorists using
