WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH CHRISTCHURCH?
TO THE F.DITOR. Sir.-—I see New Zealand is again to bo toured ft»y an overseas football team, this time under the Association code. In the itinerary issued in the Press T notice that test matches have been allocated to Dunedin, Auckland, and Wellington, whilst Christchurch is given only a South Island match. Whilst this Island will no doubt give the Australians a hard game, it puzzles me why Christchurch is continually passetl over in test matches in all desses of sport. Are the people of Christchurch apathetic in their appreciation of high class sport, or are they more ‘careful wi’ the siller ” than the canny Soot of Dunedin? Association football is a good -old British game, claiming hundreds of thousands of devotees, and Christchurch is reputed to bo the most English town in New Zealand in the character and trend of its people. T think this continual slighting which evidently emanates from Wellington, requires some explanation. Perhaps Canterbury Centre was not alive enough tv> push its claims as vigorously as the other centres. Why? T am. etc.. SPORT.
