The Government has issued a threeline whip for Monday’s sitting of the House of Commons, when it will sub mit the motion for a select committee to inquire into the teachers’ superannuation contributions and whether an undertaking had been given or implied that the provisions of the Teachers’ Superannuation Act would not be altered while the present salaries remained in force. LONDON CSTY BY-ELECTION LONDON, May 20. The by-election for London City resulted as follows: Edward C- Grenfell (Co. XT.) . 10,114 Sir T. Vansittart Bowater (Lib) .... 6,178 In 1918 Mr A. J. Balfour (00. U.) and Sir Frederick Banbury (Co.U were elected unopposed for London City, which has two members. Mr E. C. Grenfell is a director of the Bank of England and of the White Star Line. He is vice-president of the International Mercantile Marine Company and a partner in the firm of Morgan. Grenfell and Company. His opponent was Lord Mayor of London 1913-14.
