SHIP’S OFFICER CHARGED.

THEFT OF JEWELLERY AND CASH. (Per Presi Association.) AUCKLAND, May 22. At the Police Court Edward Jack Crower was charged with the theft of jewellery and cash totalling £56 10s from a private house during the abscence of the owners. Accused said he was a ship’s officer, and was paid off the Tainui at Wellington. Being hard up, he called on Mrs Hewitt to get a loan. Nobody was at the house, and he was tempted to steal the rings and the money. When arrested he had ;i loaded revolver in his trunk. Accused pleaded guilty and was remanded to Wellington, pending the hearing <»f other charges, for sentence. For having illegal possession of a firearm fie •was fined £SO or three months’ imprisonment.
