Three applications lor permission to approach the school children with a view to obtaining funds for various appeals came before to-day’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board. The committee of the Bussian Famine “Save the Children" Fund, inquired whether it was at liberty to communicate with the schools in reference to a scheme whereby the school children in the district would bo giver, the opportunity of contributing one penny per week for three months. Mr W. A. Banka moved that the request ho. granted, -subject, to the aproval ol the committees. He said that the scheme would cost no one any consid era hie amount, but the total was worth while. Tie knew that his mo fion was totally opposed to the Hoard’s general resolution keeping people out of schools, hut it was such a. worthy object that the Board should make an exception. The motion was earned. The European Student Belief Committee, wrote asking for the Board’s sanction to a proposal of the committee to circularise the ’District High Schools on behalf of the funds. Permission \va» granted. An application from the committee of the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund, asking for permission to approach the school children with a. view to collecting funds, was thou considered and permission was granted. Mr A. Fever ill expressed the opinion that all the. applications would bo turned town at the next meeting of the school Committee’ Association Tic said there was too much cadging in the schools at the present time. The Canterbury Education Board, at its meeting this morning, passed a resolution, congratulating Archbishop Julius on his apopintment to the Primacy of New Zealand.
