The arrival of Mrs Annie Besant has brought to a head a trouble which .or a considerable time has been brevvi ing amongst * Sydney Theosophists, | and the Liberal Catholic < 'hurch. 1 the membership of •which is chieily recruited from amongst Theosophists. Serious charges have been made regarding certain members of the liberal Catholic Church and the staff of its self-styled bishops. Their title is also a bone of contention, and in some quarters it is regarded as Besant attended a meeting at which the trouble was aired. After delivering an address on theosophical doctrine, she said she deprecated the circulation by members of the Tlieosophical Society of statements regarding other members of the Liberal Catholic Church. She added that in consequence of the treatment she had received at the hands of the executive she would refuse to speak on the platform again until the executive had been reconstituted. “Till then, farewell !’’ she said in conclusion. After Mrs Besant’s departure the ! meeting was noisy, her action being | vigorously condemned by some speakFinally a motion was carried, amid j much dissent, justifying the position I of Bishop Leadbeater. of the Tlieosophical Society, as head of the Liberal I Catholic Church. The meeting ended in great disorder.
