By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY, May 38. Tho " Sun ” newspaper, under a heading " The Maori War.” states a hitter fight, unseemly atyd altogether obnoxious t<f j decent people, is proceeding in New Zea- I land over the proposed visit of a team of | Maoris to Sydney to play a series of j Rugby League matches. The paper continues:—Tho League in Now Zealand is not so strong a body as here, but it is progressing. The Rugby Union, on th© other hand, lias solid sup port and a more solid hanking account, hut it resents the Intrusion of the thirteenaside code. The result is that a bittc.i war is being waged between _ the two bodies. If it were kept in New Zealand it would not matter, but it is spreading here. After referring to a cable received in Sydney, giving Mr Parata’s report to New Zealand Rugby Union, in which lie states the League code is not meeting with much success in the main North Island districts, the paper states: The hit terness with which the fight is being waged 5r obvious from the message, but Sydney is not perturbed. The New South Wales League secretary states he has information that more Maoris than are wanted are desirous of making the trip. The paper concludes: Be this as it may. this unseemly quarrel between the two codes in New Zealand is having a had effect on the game. Fortunately the same bitterness 1 -.m '^ Pn displayed here.
