CHRISTCHURCH. TO-DAY’S CASES. Th© Court was presided over by Mr. H. Y. Widdowson. S. M . drunkenness. Two first -offenders for drunkenness were fined 10s with the usual alternative. One of these men expressed a wish to be sent- to Roto Roa. but the Magistrate queried whether lie knew what lie was talking about, and ordered him to stand down in the meantime. Dorothy Cox was charged. on remand. with being an idle and disorderly person. Mr. A\ . -1. Cracroft-Wilson, on behalf of the girl, .said that her mother had gone to stay at- an hotel in the city, but there tv as no room for the girl and she had to wander about. The police stated that it was a question of whether the mother was able to look after the girl. Tho Magistrate warned the mother to keep the girl indoors at night, and dismissed. the information. AFTER HOURS. For being found on tho licensed premises of the Excelsior Hotel after hour - on March 12 Thomas Clement- was fined 20s and costs. A\ in. Hutchison, for being found or. the Rotlierfibld Hotel after hours on April 8. was fined 20s and costs. Robert Taylor was charged that on March 12 ho was found on the ExcelsiorHotel premises after hours. Police evidence was to the effect that defendant made himself a bit of a nuisance, and a fine of JOs and costs was inflicted. MAINTENANCE < ASES. Walter John Hampton Reynolds, for disobedience of a maintenance order, was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour, the warrant to be suspended on payment of arrears amounting to £ls 3s. On a second charge of the same nature he was ordered to pay arrears amounting to £5 Is. in default one month’s imprisonment at Wellington. the sentences to be cumulative. Francis Albert Franks was ordered to pay the sum of os per week for tho maintenance of 1 1 is son, Percy Gordon Franks. Amy Nelson (Mr L. W. Gee) proceeded against Arthur Reginald Bor land for the disobedience of a maintenance order. The arrears amounted to £39 6s 9d. Defendant, was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour, to he released on payment of arrears, and the warrant to be suspended so long as the payments .ire kept up.
