EVENTS OF THE WEEK. [From Olx Corbespo.vdjskt.] ANZAC DAY. Anzac Day will be celebrated at All Saints’ Church by Holy Communion at ! 8 a.m., a children’s service for half an j hour nt 1C a.m., and by a special Anzac : Commemoration Service at 11 a.m., w hen a presentation of wreaths will be ' made. At 9.30 a.m. the children of the Burv ; Street School will assemble for the pre--1 sematiou of the poppy wreaths. A j short ceremonial will he followed, iri ! uecordace. with Departmental direc- ! turns. At 9. p.m. a combined Citizens’ Sor- | vice is to bo held in the Town Hall, j where the Mayor will preside and j local ministers will take part, and suitj able solos ace being arranged for. ; A hi. SAINTS’ CHURCH’. 1 Very large congregations attended I the Faster services all day, esxTeeially |at the early Communion services. ; Special music w:ks rendered, including I tin l hymn “The Fee "Behind the Deep Before,” which was sung as an anthem. Ilm church was prettily decorated with white flowers. Tin* vicar, Rev K. C \V. Powell, preached in the morning, and Mr G. Stoning at night. The organist for tlie day was Mr H. A. Adley. SUMNER CADETS. The local cadets were inspected by Lieutenant Anderson. 0.C., last week, when there was a good muster. The j work in hand was smartly executed am! ; very favourably commented upon by tlie | visiting officer. I PERSONAL. Mrs W. D. Kirkpatrick, who is retirj ing from the staff of the Redd iff.y • School, was entertained by the teachers and scholars recently at a farewell function. The proceedings wore of a very cordial nature. In making a presentation of a gold watch on behalf of the school, Jean Coleman expressed the children’s keen apreciation of the work done by Mrs Kirkpatrick, and wished her much happiness in the future. Mrs Kirkpatrick feelingly acknowledged the gift and a pleasant afternoon was terminated with the handing round of refreshments. SUMNER ROWING CLUB. The rowing club is to be congratulated upon the success of its annual ball. The decorations in the ball room were particularly admired and all other arrangements were iri keeping with the effort. Tbo music supplied by Miss MacDonald’s orchestra was a splendid contribution to the evening’s enjoyment and the secretary and committee have every reason to be well pleased with the result. CLIFTON ANl> SUMNER SCOUTS. Representations have been made by the local scouts to secure th© us© of the schooner Annie Hill, as local headquarters in the estuary. It is proposed to use part of the vessel as headquarters for the local patrols and to devote the rest to the use of the town Sea Scouts. The scheme was recently laid before the Dominion Executive by ! Messrs Neville and Dick, who stated that tbo owners had offered to hire the vessel for £4O a year. The deputation was cordially received, and the proposition favourably reviewed. There now seems every' possibility that the scheme will mature.
