A PRIVATE MEETING. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 19. The executive of the Post and Telegraph Association met to-day to consider matters relating to affiliation with tho Alliance of Labour, and the Government’s refusal to countenance the same. At tlie close of tho day’s proceedings, which wero conducted in private, it was announced that there was no statement for publication. Tlie meeting will he continued to-morrow. Regarding the Post and Telegraph ballot, the Prime Minister stated that he had received no communication from the executive of tho Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association with regard to the result of its deliberations. “Of course,” added «Mr Massey, “ Mr Coates is Postmaster-Genera I. They will probably communicate in the first instance with him, but ho is at present out of town.” WESTPORT, April 19. At a meeting of tho AA'estport branch of tho New Zealand Labour Party it was resolved:—“That this meeting heartily congratulates members of tho Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association on their substantial majority decision to link up with tho Alliance of Labour, thus strengthening tho industrial movement in New Zealand. This meeting further resents the Governments’ attempt to intimidate members of tho Postal Service, and urges Post and Telegraph members to remember where their interests lie when tlie next election comes round.” At a meeting of the Canterbury Gen-

oral Labourers’ Union, held in the Trades Hall cfn Tuesday evening, tho following resolution was carried unanimously :—“ We congratulate the Post and Telegraph employees on their determination to affiliate with the Alliance of Labour, and despite all adverse criticism, we are of the opinion that they can carry out their duties in a far more honourable manner than can the Reform Party, pledged, as its members are, to tho Protestant Political Association.”
