Mr and Mrs H. J. Francis (Lee's Valley. Oxford) are staying at tbo Royal. Mips E. O’Connell returned to Christchurch this morning from Wellington. Mrs W. Angell (Dunedin ) and Mr and Mrs A. B. Manchester (Waimate) arrived yesterday at the Clarendon. Captain and Mrs Edkins. -who hare been staying over Easter at Warners, left for the north last nght. Miss Mario Tempest and Mr Graham Brown left Warner’s last night for Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Frank Clark (Warner's) left Christchurch last night on their return home to Bradford. Mr and Mrs H. J. Francis, of Lee’s Valley, Oxford, arrived in Christchurch yesterday by motor, and are staying at the Royal Hotel. Captain and Mrs Weaver (India) left Christchurch for Geraldine this morning, where they will stay with Mrs "Weaver’s father, Mr O. Scott Thomson. The engagement is announced of Miss Kathleen M. Haig, youngest daughter of Mr and Airs H. R. Haig. "Wanganui, to Mr Cyril Fletcher Jones, only son ol Mr and Airs T. Jones, St Albans, Christchurch. Visitors to Warner’s include Mrs I Duncan and Aliss Duncan, who arrived ihis morning from Wanganui ; Air and Mrs Rodgers (Wellington) and Mr and Mrs R. P. K. Montgomery, who came into town from Ashburton yesterday. Recent arrivals at the United Service include, the Misses M. and X Baker, who came in from Wellington by this morning s ferry ; Airs B. The Easter camp of the Young Women’s Christian Association was from every point of view a pronounced suo* cess. The camp was held at Kaiapoi. The spirit of good comradeship and jollity was much in evidence—choruses end topical songs, dramatic “stunts and picnics being the spontaneous expression of a camp of happy girls. The engagement- is announced of Miss Ank«°. Sluis. only daughter of Mrs Sluis and the late J. H. Sin is, to Mr Ronald (Irahara. both of Christ church. Mis* Alice Cat-ton, of Bexley. Miss Hetty Dally, of Spreydon, and Miss Alice Walker, of Spreydon, were each presented, on the occasion of their respective marriages, with eiderdown quilts from their associate employees at the Kaiapoi clothing ; factory. Mr Bissett, factory manager, j made the presentations on behalf of I the employees, staffs and firm, referring to the recipients' length of service, and the admirable qualities of the recipients. The Christchurch PI am Dance Assembly held a very enjoyable dance at the Beckenham Hall on Easter 3[onday, when about two hundred were present. The ballroom was tastefully decorated in various shades of pink, carried out with hanging baskets of j artificial flowers and muslin streamers. | The electric lights.bore beautifully col- | onred shades, and there was an excel- ! lent augmented orchestra.
