At tho ceremony of turning on the electric light, at Springsfcon on Saturday night. Mr P. R. Climie. organiser for tho Canterbury Progress League, paid a warm tribute to the work of Mr John Cunningham, of Brookside, chairman of the Springs-Ellesmer© Electric Power Board, and chairman of the Ellesmere County Council. Mr Climie said that he had been in close touch with Mr Cunningham ever since the formation of the Power Board, and. it it had not been for his untiring efforts as chairman of that board, they w r ould not be celebrating the turning on of tho light that evening. The people of tho district owed a very great deal to Mr Cunningham, and the Progress League also recognised the splendid work he had don< in connection with tho Power Board.
