DRESSMAKERS’ DISPUTE. A dispute between the Christchruch Dross Makers’ Union and the employers was hoard This morning, Mr W. H. Dagger '.Conciliation Commissioner) presiding. Mr Cooper said that ho did not think tho employers would consider the time opportune to increase prices. An employer had written to him stating that wages of Civil Servants had been reduced and he thought other workers should be similarly treated. The union's demands were:— Hours of Work—The hours of work shall be forty-four per week. Wa«»ps—First six months, 17s per week: second six months. 17s Gd: third six months, ill; fourth six months, .El ‘2s 6d; fifth six months, £1 Cs; sixth six months, £j ,; r j. seventh six months, S-t 10s; eighth six months, £1 1.55; in addition a 'women. tiSs per week, and in addition a 6s lid per week bonus. Overtime shall hi- paid for nt the rate of time and a half, and ill no case shall this amount be less than Is an hour. Tim.- work oil statutory half-holiday and other holidays shall he paid double rates. The employers' counter proposals were the terms of the old award. After some discussion tlie questions of wages, terms of apprenticeship and overtime were referred to the Arbitration Court.
