LAWN TENNIS.
SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT. • The annual schools’ tennis tournament continued at Avonside to-day. The finals of the boys’ handicap singles and the ffirlP - handicap doubles were decided, the former being won by I?. Bngge (St Andrew's) and the latter by Misses G. and M. Rankin (St Margaret’s). The finals of the other events will be decided some time next week. Results : BOYS’ HANDICAP SINGLES. Semi-final.—R. Baggo (1-6 15) beat A. Temple (scr) 6-2; H. \V. Ozier (15) won from R H. England (5-6 35) by default. Final. - Baggo (St Andrew's) beat Ozier (Boys' High School) 9-6. Bagg© won the first three gamoo and kept the lead all the way through. At one stage the score stood at 6-5. The next two gamea went to Bagge. Ozier won the next same, but the last one and the set went to Bagere. Both boys played •steadily and some long rallies took place. Neither played a particularly brilliant game, but both showed promise of developing into good players. GIRLS’ HANDICAP SINGLES. In the semi-final of the girls’ handicap singles Miss M. Smee (3-6 15) beat Miss N. Marshall (15 2-6) €-5. The final between Miss Smee and Miss E. Lance could not be played owing to the latter being indisposed. COMBINED HANDICAP DOUBLES. Semi-final.—D. Grover and Miss M. Smee (15 2-6 ) beat A. Temple and Miss Quill (3-6 15) 6-5; K. North and Miss N. Ive 6 (15) beat 8. A. Cooper and Miss M. Wiggins (15 5-6) 6- 3. GIRLS’ HANDICAP DOUBLES. .Semi-final.—Misses M. Miller and D. Scott 'scr) beat Misses M. Stevenson and N. Marshall (15 2-6) 6-2; Misses G. and M. Rankin (15 2-6) beat Misses M. Nancarow and Turner (15 4-6) G-4. Final.—The Misses Rankin (St Margaret’s) beat Misses Miller and Scott (Girls’ High School) 9-1. Misses Miller and Scott. who were scratch, found the handicap of their opponents too much for them. Moreover, they did not. appear to be playing up to their usual form. The Misses Rankin are promising players. . BOYS’ HANDICAP DOUBLES. Third Round.—A. M. Hatch and A. R. Whitehead (30) beat H. Dowling and R. Bagge (2-6 15) €-3; H. W. Ozier and Allen (15 1-6) beat H. M’Fadden and Brown (4-6 15) 6-5; R. J. Carleton and 8. A. Cooper (scr) l>eat Perkins and H. Spicer (15 2-6) 6-5; S. C. Speight and A. J. Robinson (15 3-6) won from R. H. England and A.Temple (scr) by default.
Semi-final.—Hatch and Whitehead bca Speight and Robinson 6^3.
