EXPELLED FROM PARTY.
CANDIDATE DISOBEYS EXECUTIVE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received April 1, 11.7 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 1. The allotment of the preference votes is proceeding, and the counting in several electorates has been completed. There is no change in the positions of the parties. Mr Simon Hickey, who briefly occupied the Speaker’s chair on the resignation of Mr Lev 3', was defeated for Botanj*, at which electorate the new Labour candidate, Mr AY. Ratcliffe, topped the poll, defeating Mr Mutch, Minister of Education, and Mr AfcKell, Minister of Justice. The last-named scraped home without the quota. Mr Cann, Minister of Mines, was the fifth member elected for St. George, also without the quota. The Labour Party’s executive last night expelled Mr AW Ratcliff© for refusing to obey the executive’s injunction not to seek number one votes, but to act as a “ Dummy ” for the other four Labour candidates. The other candidates, having similarly refused to play the part of Dummy,” are threatened with expulsion.
