The first half of the combined area's rifle meeting wa-s’ decided at the Redoliffs range on Saturday. The weather conditions were fairly good, and the shooting throughout was of a high# standard. The entries were far in excess of last year, which necessitated extra prices being given. The Christchurch Defence Rifle Club’s shield was won by Christ*s College for the third year in succession. The *'* Field Artillery Challenge Cup 5 ' was also won by Christ’s College, this being their third victory. Private X. D. Wilson won the Ist Battalion Canterbury Regiment Challenge Cup tor the grand aggregate, highest individual score in matches 1 to 4. On Saturday the meeting will be concluded at the King iSdward Barracks, when shooting will take place on the miniature range. There are five matches in this “B " series. Application snap-shooting. rapid, superiority of fire, and the highest aggregate in matches 1,2 and 3. The Group H Cadet Teams Challenge Cup will go to the winning team in the superiority of fire match. In the first four matches any competitor firing before whistle restart. or after whistle to cease, will lose the value of his best shot. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Officers 5 Club was field on Thursday evening. The new officials for the ensuing year were elected, and the balance-sheet presented and passed. Tt showed that the club is in a sound position. The Syllabus Committee and the Social Committee were reconstituted and commenced their activities that night. The late president announced* that General Chaytor, G-0.C., and General Richardson, in charge of administration. have accepted invitations to lecture. A meeting of the Garrison Sports Association was held during the week. The project of running another swimming carnival was brought up and discussed, but. owing to the lateness of the season and the carnivals at present taking; place, the project was abandoned. A sub-committee was appointed to go into the matter of holding an evening athletic meeting for nightparading Cadets. The was instructed to report to the next meeting of the committee in April. Area 10a, Christchurch, has sent in twenty-three teams to compete for the imperial Challenge Shield, and also three secondary school teams for the 1 ictory Challenge Shield. The former match will be fired off on June 30 and the Jatter on April 30. * / Four B.S.A. match rifles have been placed at the disposal of two secondary school units, and their teams are now using them in practice. A team from St Andrew's College i? shortly to shoot a match against M Glashen College. Dunedin. The team lias been putting in some valuable practice lately, and should jgive a good account of itself. The same team, after its return from Dunedin, will shoot for the College in the Victory and Imperial Shields match. On Monday St Andrew's Cadets held a special parade, when some twenty N.C.O.'s and Cadets for first appoint ments were examined for their promotion. The area officer (Captain H. M. Foster. X.Z.S.C.) attended tlic parade, together with the O.C. of the company. Lieutenant Williamson, and conducted the examination. The results will he made known shortly. The officers commanding all units, and especially head masters of secondary schools, arc being approached throughout New Zealand to get their views on the proposed military sports to he held throughout the various com mauds. Athletic and military events are to lie held. It is intended to, pur on a series of championship event' : that is. the best all round team in each area. Competitors will be selected from each area and also the units concerned in the district meeting. Similarlv the winners will be selected to compete in the command meeting. The Model Platoon of the sth (Cadet) Battalion C.R. have been practising with a view to entering in the Lewis gun competition in the Southern Con' mand’s meeting, and good work has been done. Unfortunately, as they ar j not an eligible unit, their entry had to be refused, and also owing to the heavy day at the range and the limited target space. The syllabus of training for the sth (Cadet) Battalion C.R. for this week includes syllabus work in the Barrack® for all companion except A and A Companies on Mondav night last. wlmu Captain H. H. S.
