Mr and Mrs H- G. Murray (Sydney) lie staying at tho Clarendon. Mrs Alec Hill has taken a house in Derby Street. Mr and Mrs Charles Ashford ("Wellington) are the guests of Mrs Bernard Wood. Miss Hilda Haraerton and Miss Reeves, who have been staying with -Mrs A. H. Hamerton since her return from England, have returned homo to Wellington. On the conclusion of the programme, Mr Aloff, president of the Social Committee for the soldier-patients, called for three cheers for Mrs Loughnan and her party, and expressed grateful thanks especially to Mrs Louglinan, who had played the accompaniments, i’nd worked so hard to give them such r j°dy evening. The visitors were then entertained by tire Matron to supper. The Canterbury College Tennis Club is fortunate in haring asphnlt courts on which the members can get enjoyment and exercise during the winter months. Some good sets of tennis* wore played by parents who came with their children. tho pretty grounds being sheltered from Saturday's < old wind, and all present thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. A concert of more, than usual excellence organised by Airs H. H. Loughnan visited the Alilitary Sanatorium on Saturday night, and gave a performance winch delighted the men. Mrs Hulme first appeared in the beautiful concert dress presented to her by members of the Dunedin Operatic Society, after her production of The Cingalee in that city, and subsequently sang items from the Geisha and the Bell of Now York, in costume. A duet with Mr Frank Alorrison received a double encore, Air Alorrison himself, whose fine baritone was never heard to better advantage,. having to respond to encores for each of his songs. Alias Lulu Harm ay sang very sweetly 'to a T’kalele accompaniment played by herself, and Air Ross Lasoelles contributed two popular solos. Perhaps the most popular item on the programme was the song sung by Alisa Eileen Lascelles. followed on the conclusion of each verso by a rousing accompaniment by tho men. So tune fill a volume of sound did they produce it was hard for the moment to believe it came from invalids at all. It was unfortunate that Mr Leslie, who had done good work in helping to arrange the programme, was called away to Wellington owing to a bereavement in his family, and could not be present. A successful social was tendered to Sister May Barnett in the Tai Tapu Alethodisfc Schoolroom on Friday evening. The Rev T. X. Griffin occupied the chair and in his remarks# relerred to thp interesting fact that- the Rev TV. A. Sinclair, the general secretary of the new mission board which has control of the work in the Solomon Islands, and Sister May who is in the first hand of missionaries leaving the Dominion for this special field of service, were both scholars in the Tai Tapu public school and Alethpdist Sunday school. Tn the cotirse of the evening it was stated by ATr R. A. Forbes that when he arrived at Tai Tapu fiftyeight years ago the Alothodist Church services were conducted in the home of Air Barnett, grandfather of tire guest of the evening. Brief and sympathetic addresses were delivered by Alessrs J. Gilmour. R. A. Forl>es. T. O. Morgan, E. Graham and Rev J. R. Clark. A musical programme was rendered in which Airs M’Lachlan, Miss Peryman, Alisa Heinzman, and Miss E. Tohack took part with Miss Barnett, church organist, as accompanist. Recitations were given by Aliss Jean Al’LacJan and Mr H. E. Pervman. Air T. O. Morgan also contributed a reading. At the close of the programme Mr H. 13. Perymaji in felicitous terms on behalf of tho congregation and Sunday school, presented Sister Afay with a dressing case. The gift was suitably acknowledged. Sister May is leaving by the Maori this evening for her new sphere of service and is being followed by the good wishes of all her friends.
