Ropes arc made from bananas, and although Manila rope is not so reliable as hemp, it is much cheaper. The ropa is made entirelv from the stalks of tin* leaves of a. species of banana. These stems contain a coarse, tough fibre which native labourers extract, bv hand TV hen lliey have been cleaned, dried and sorted, the fibres are readv to be sent to the factory. Tt, is the finest of them that make the best rope. The coarse fibres are not sufficiently flexible to stand the hard work they must endure.
