RESURRECTED ANIMOSITY.

N.Z. AND AUSTRALIA, I JOURNALIST’S IMPRESSIONS !5y Tolegrraph—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Y Oafcle Association, ftveoeivesi March 11, 8.5 a m.) SYDNEY, March 11. A visiting New Zealand journalist, in an article in the “ Daily Telegraph,’’ commenting on the Hon W. Downie Stewart’s visit, states that much bitterness exists in New Zealand over her trade relationships with Australia, arising out of Australia’s denial to New Zealand of the preference in tariff which New Zealand afforded, Australia. He says: “ The comradeship of war did away with the old-time misunderstandings which existed prior to that time, and it seems a sad thing that through whispered bickerings in trade circles, this great understanding should be confused and threatened with relegation to the dust of the past misunderstandings. Yet such is the case. The animosities of the past are being resurrected, with all their wicked feeling against Australians in New Zealand, who is almost as hostile as she was before the war. Happily, there is n chance of an adjustment.” The writer expresses the hope that tho visit of the New Zealand Minister will lead to an understanding which will prove enduring. THE TARIFF BOARD.
