Tho main topic -of discussion in rowing circles, at present is the Canterbury crew for the Interprovincial Fours, race* to be held at Corsair Day on Anril 15. The selected rrew—T. H- Grentell (stroke). W. Sergison (3), C. Champ (2), and H. Adkins (bow)—appears to give general satisfaction, although in some quarters Velvin (Avon)'is preferred to Grenfell. The latter is a 'junior oaceman. and rows in that grade tor the Union Club, 'it is questionable whether he has had sufficient experience to rowin such an important event, where tho pick of the crews of other provinces will compete.' He has practically an unbeaten record in pair oar races. The other three picked men are undoubtedly the best available. It Is expected that Wellington. Auckland. Wanganui. Marlborough. Otago and Canterbury will he represented in the Tntcrprovincial Fours race. * * Tlte Wellington Rowing Association held its annual regatta last Saturday at Petone. A strong north-westerly wind prevailed, coming down in violent; gusts. Scullers from various parts of the Dominion competed, and the number of entries received for each event was in every way satisfactory. Owing to the illness of one of their men. the Canterbury Junior crew were unable to stait. Tho best race of the day was the Youths’ Fours, in which the Canterburv crew (F. Drown. T. F. M. Gibson- A. C. O. Allen and G H. Arnold) heat sev«n other orewg. From a good start Petone had a slight lead. Halfway AYesfc End (Auckland) were leading. hut cot too close to the rocks and lost their position. Canterbury then took the lead, closely followed by Pi---ton. Nearing the finish Wellington drew up to second place. Canterbury eventually winning by a length. Th;a was the best race of the day. six ere*'? finishing in a bunch. Canterbury R.C- had two wins and two seconds. Thev were first in tho Youths’ Fours and Alai den Rare and second in the Maiden Double Scull* and A’ouths* Double Sculls. Out of thirteen events, no fewer than ten were for juniors and maiden*, giving considerable encouragement to the younger competitors. The AA'e*t End (Auckland) competitors had particularly had luck, their new boat having been rigged on the wrong side. Th° boat was used, however, after the positions of the crew had been changed. A. Sharpe, who won the Pearce Che* lenge Cup (senior sculls) in 1911-12 and 1920 21. carried the trophy off again on Saturday, and X. AY. Smith was again successful in the competition for the Bridson Challenge Cup (junijr sculls) Roth men belong to the Union Club, AYangamii.
