Sir Joseph Cook provided three ribs of Australian. Scotch and i Argentine beef, w hick was privately j marked. The experts, who did not; know tho country of origin, were re- I quested to taste and place the beef in i order of merit. Four voted Scotch first. Australian second and Argentine third. Three voted Scotch first, Argentine second and Australian third. The Argentine beef was two months’ old, but the Australian tv&s two or three ye-ars ; yet preference was given to tho Australian, notwithstanding the suggestions from some quarters that long storage resulted in great deterioration.
