Mr Austin Chamberlain, in tlio House of Commons, replying to Mr J. W. W. Hopkins (Unionist) regarding the proposed amendment to the British Nationality Status Aliens Act, 1914, said that replies had not been received from all tho Dominions. He had endeavoured to secure their concurrence. Asked if concurrence could not be requested by telegraph, Mr Chamberlain paid: ‘1 think we must treat the Dominions with becoming respect. It is improper to hurry them unduly. 0 Mr Hopkins : Has not this matter been going on for years?” Mr Chamberlain: “ The self-govern-ing Dominions are self-governing. We < ounot dictate to them. They must be allowed to answer in their own time. It is important that there l>e uniform legislation regarding this matter throughout the Empire.”
