A MATTER OF COLOUR.
A ,l *> TO THE EDITOR. Sir.—Kindly allow in© a little space to comment on the unwarranted and unpardonable behaviour of a certain tew fruiterers and green-grocers of this city. That a greatly-respected citizen, with twenty-six years' residence in New Zealand to his credit, should be so grossly !insuited, while trying to make an honest living, seems to me to be propostorous, to say the least of it. What is the reason for this strange behaviourP “ A question of colour,” you may answer. But what does it matter whether the colour of a man’s skin bo black, brown, white—or yellow ? It matters little in the end as long as we know that the man’s heart is good. Why do such emall-souled people make use of offensive publicity in trying to divert their competitor’s trade? Cannot they not do it cleanly, fairly? Ah, perhaps the shopper knows. In conclusion, 1 wish to state that I am of the opinion that an apology is due to the gentleman concerned, for it does not augur well for the future of Christchurch if people are to take up attitude* such as these—l am, etc. LIVE AND LET LIVE
