Th© araru© between Johnson and Hutchison (Dunedin) and Casey a’nd Parsons (Ponsonby) resulted in a win for the Dunedin pair. Parsons came up to Hutchison when the latter was 10 at the eighth head, but the former ran up to 17. At the fourteenth head, when Parsons was only 12. Parsons’s best position was 16 when Hutchison was 18, but tbe latter won the last three heads and added seven to his score. The g-axnc was by no means a walkover for Hutchison, though his bowling was undoubtedly better thau that of Parsons. Tt was the last three heads that made the difference to the score. Johnson and Hutchison having won first gam© ha.d to play Cutt and Ha in (North End) for the semi-final. At an early stage of the game North End led 12-6. hut fiv© successive scores for Dunedin resulted in a tie. North End made three in tbe next end, and then stood still whilo the Dunedin pair went up 13, 34, 38, 23. 23. In tbe twentieth head North End only got one point, and as they were then nine down th© game was finished. This brought. Hutchison into the semifinal against P. Daubeney and E. fimit.h (North End). The North End pair got the best of the first half of the semi-final, and at the tenth bead the score was 9-6 their way. North End forged steadily ahead anil appeared to have an easy win. but Smith kept going through the next head and Dunedin went up four. This success put fresh courage into the Dunedin pair, whose bowling became more confident. Tn the next end Smith trailed kitty and lost Dunedin one. but Hutchison made it up with his last bowl. The score was now 37-3 4 and the nineteenth head resulted in a tie. Johnson drew no fewer thau three touchers. Two were lying and Hutchison got in a, third, but Smith. after both Daubeney and lie had missed, hit the head and put out two. Hutchison drew a second. Smith’s drive went wide, and the former drew a third. In the next head ten bowls were wasted through bad judgment, and the jack was ©till lying a yard from auy bowl. Hutchison drew three In succession, but Smith's last howl trailed kitty and gained him a point. Hutchison's drive with his last howl burnt the last head when North End were lying two, and an extra head had to be played. Johnson placed a difficult one in front of J Daubeney's toucher, but Daubeney knocked it out with his next draw and North End lay two. Hutchison could not risk a drive, as North End were handy on each side, and th© latter added three to the score, winning by 21 to 38. In the final between Brackenridge. sen. and jun.
