INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH.
NEGLECTED IN THE DOMINION. “ One aid to industrial extension, which is still being most unwisely neglected in this Dominion, is the promotion of scientific industrial research,” said Air W. J. Jenkin at last night’s meeting of the Canterbury Industrial Association. “ In the report presented in 1919, the Industries Committee of Parliament stated that of all the British Dominions, New Zealand appeared to be the only one that had not since the commencement of the war organised research work in the interests of industry. This reproach has not yet been lifted. Alaj- we venture to hope the Department will be able to assist in this important matter during the ensuing year, for I think that with the assistance of our Department and the concentrated efforts and energy of the New Zealand manufacturers, we should be able to more than hold our own in the near future, more especially when we consider that the Government is determined to push on with hydro-electricitv, which I venture to say will prove a decisive industrial factor of this country.”
