EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. Th© East Christchurch Club held the last distance for the Dalton Challengo Cup 880yds) last night. The result was as follows : 3. Cameron, 2min 37seo l N. S. Batchelor, scr 2 A. Dalton, 2min 37seo 3 L. Hill, 16sec 4 C. Atkinson, 26aec 5 L. Clarkson and F. S. Taylor (3min l7sec) retired alter completing 300yds. Time—14min 34 4-ssec. The times of the back markers were as follows:—N. S. Batchelor, llmin 58eec; ;L. / Hill, 12min 23sec; C. Atkinson, 12min 41sec. N. S. Batchelor lowered the New Zealand record by 4sec. He is the first New Zealander to break 12min, and his time ranks him as on© of th© best distance swimmers in Australasia. CANTERBURY CENTRE. The final match of the first round of the Canterbury water polo championship took place last night, Opawa (th© holders) meeting United. In a very exciting game United succeeded in winning by 4 goals to 2. Th© winning team have only entered th© senior competition this year, and promise to giro a good account of themselves.
