SWIMMING.
OPAWA CLUB’S OPENING. The nineteenth season of the Opawa | Swimming Club was opeued this afternoon. There was a good attendance, especially of > children, and the warmth made swimming j pleasant. I Mr P. Monzies, patron of the club, ex- ! tended a hearty Avelcomo to tho visitors, j Last year, he said, the club had a good ‘ season, and the one ahead promised to be a better one. Membership was going : up, and conditions generally, were favouri able. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., thanked the members of the club for having elocted him ono of their vice-presidents. He appreciated very much the good work done by the swimming clubs iu teaching cliild- ! ren to swim. Ho believed that the teaehj ing of swimming in tlie schools should be 1 made compulsory. He wished the club j every success in its coming season. He referred in term. J of praise to a scheme : being carried out by club members to J teach school children to swim.
