- INCREASED PRICES ANNOUNCED. RESULT OP NEW TARIFF. The price of pipe tobacco was raised all round on Tuesday by tho Christchurch Hairdressers and Tobacconists' Association, consequent on the proposed increase in the duty. Pipe mixtures have been increased by Id an oz owing to tho rise in plugs, but tinned tobaccos will be averaged as follows: Old New price, price, sd 8 d
Havelock, Diadem, Golden Eagle, Lucy Hinton, Derby, High Admiral and Edgeworth will be increased from Is 6d to Is 9d. Plug tobacco will be increased by Id an ounce, except in the case of Richmond Best, which will be increased from la 9d to 2s Bd. Loose pipe tobacco will bo increased by id an ounce generally and Cut Richmond by 2d an ounce. No immediate change will take place in cigaret ;e tobaccos, as the Government’s intentions are not fully understood. If the proposed increases are adopted it is expected that the sales of loose tobacco will fall off to nothing. The New Zealand manufacturer of Capstan cigarettes has raised his prices, and the association has therefore increased Capstan mild from 7d to Bd, and medium from 7d to 9d.
