ULSTER’S COUNTERPROPOSALS. UNIONISTS CONFER WITH CONFERENCE. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 16, 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, Novembor 15. The British representatives at the Irish Conference heard Ixwd Midleton and six other Southern Irish Unionists, It is understood that Lord Midleton sought an interview which lasted an hour and a half. No statement was issued. / It is believed that th© Government’s reply to Ulster contains no fresh proposals. It reaffirms the Government’s settlement plan and intimates that Ulster’s counter-proposals are not acceptable to either party* at the Conference . Ulster men are organising a monster loyalist demonstration in Belfast on Wednesday on the eve of th© Unionist conference at Liverpool. Sir James Craig refused a settlement on the basis of an all-Ireland Parliament, and suggested, as a. counter-pro-posal, that the North and South Parliaments should each enjoy dominion status with equal powers.
ATTEMPTED BETRAYAL.
CHARGE AGAINST BRITISH CABINET. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 16, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, November 15. The Hon J. M. Andrews (Ulster Minister for Labour), interviewed in Belfast, said that the Coalition Cabinet had attempted a disgraceful betrayal of Ulster. Referring to th© suggestion that Ulster should agree to an all-Ireland Parliament with dominion powers, Mr Andrews said “ AVo informed tlie Imperial Government that w© were not prepared to admit th© ascendency of any Parliament except the Imperial Parliament over ours ; or agree to the transference of reserved services to an all-Ireland Parliament which would be under th© control of those boasting that they were th© Empire’s enemies. Sir James Craig and his colleagues pointed out tlie clearest way. Any discussion cm this basis would prove fruitless. We accepted our own Parliament in tlie interests of peace as a compromise and as a final settlement. It is for our opponents to accept their’s in the same spirit.”
