The Storm arrived to-day from Dunedin, via Timaru. She will be dispatched from Lyttelton thie evening for Picton and Wanganui. The Calm ia due to-morrow or Friday from Bluff. Dunedin and Timaru, to load for Wellington and Wanganui. The Rama arrived from Timaru yesterday morning and sailed last evening for Wellington and New Plymouth. The atoa left Lyttelton for Welnotgnil The Ktttoa left Lyttelton for Wellington and Auckland last evening with a large consignment of wheat. The vessel completed her annual overhauling at Dunedin fast week. Cantain W. W. Hender retains command of the Kat.oa, and has the fol-V-*winer officers associated with him:— Chief, Mr T. H. The Waiotapu leaves Lyttelton for New Plymouth to-day. INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. The Kalapoi ia to load at Adelaide and Melbourne for New Zealand ports next week. COAL AND TIMBER SUPPLIES. The Kaiwarra is timed to leave Newcastle at the end of the current week for Wollingtoa. Laden with coal and general cargo from Newcastle, via Auckland and Napier, the Karori should reach Wellington on Friday. From there the vessel will go on to New Plymouth. The Kanna is due on Saturday from Grey mouth. THE MATAKANA. The S.S. and A. steamer Matakana, which arrived at Lyttelton from Liverpool. via Auckland, on Sunday, fresh from the builders' hands, and on her maiden voyage. Built *by Messrs Alexander Stevenson and Sons, Glasgow, the latest addition to the Shaw-Savill fleet left the docks at Clvde on the morning of September 1 and accomplisliedl her trial runs the following day. She took her departure from Glasgow on September 11 for Liverpool, where she completed loading. and sailed from the latter port Tor Auckland and Wellington direct. The average speed from Liverpool to Panama Wns eleven knots, while from Panama to Auekhtnd the vessel travelled at the rate of 12t knots. Fine weather was experienced until within four or five days' sailing of the northern port, when strong south-westerly winds were encountered. Thp voyage was without incident. The Matakana is an up-to-date vessel, excellently unpointed, and lias geared turbines, twin screw. She is of 8048 tons erosp register and 5030 tons net, and is 494 ft loin in length, with a beam measurement of 63ft 9in. Cantain V.
