A garden fete is to be held at Bannerdale Home, 439, Papanui Road, on Saturday afternoon. It is hoped by its means to raise funds to rent a cottage at. Sumner for a couple of months, in order that the soldier patients in spinal chairs may be enabled to enjoy a change of scene and be wheeled out into the sun and air, with all the benefit of the invigorating sea. breezes. Attractions of all sorts are being provided. In connection with the refresher course of lectures no s being held at College House, a pleasant At Home was given last night by Canon and Airs AA'iliord- An inviting supper was served in the dining-room, which had bowls of beautiful roses, rhododendrons and azaleas standing about on the tables and sideboard. A very enjoyable musical programme had been arranged by Pr Crooke, amongst those taking po rt being Air and Airs AV. J. Hunter, Airs Stephen Parr and Archdeacon Haggitt, besides a brilliant piano solo by Dr Crooke himself. Among the guests were Bishop Julius and Aiiss Julius, Airs Walter Fox, Professor and Airs Blunt.
