PLENTY OF EXCUSES.

AFTER HOURS CONVICTIONS A large number of charges of having been found on licensed premises after hours were dealt with by Mr Wvvern Wilson, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Only two of the defendants appeared. They both pleaded guilty, and offered no excuses. According to the evidence given by the polio© the other defendants made a variety of excuses to account for their presence on licensed premises after hours. One said he had gone tp see the cook, whilst two others frankly admitted that they had entered the hotel to get a drink. The Magistrate inflicted a fine of 20s and costs in each case. The following were the defendants dealt with :—Arthur Lancelot Cyril Watkins, who was found on the licensed premises of the Shades Hotel 'on October 20 ; Thomas Heed, Edward Richard O’Brien and Martin Mu Italy, who visited the New Zealander Hotel after hours on October 19; and Frederick Thomas, William M’Nicholl, Arthur Edward Lashke, William Davie, William Barrett and Pat Birmingham, who, on September 30 last, were found on the licensed premises of the Excelsior Hotel after hours.
